This is my absolute favorite place to eat in North Carolina, by far. The food and staff are incredible! I eat here as often as I can, which are both of my days off work. Lunch, dinner, or in between, the Fiesta is here at El Cerro Grande! Our family has been eating here since the original restaurant above the old Harris Teeter that was on Wrightsville avenue, and I have never once gotta a bad meal here. If you have never been, please go to El Cerro!

I have eaten at this location , perhaps 25 times . we eat out all over Wilmington and I like this restaurant the best overall, for a casual meal ,at great prices, they have a nice looking restaurant , has a upscale Mexican theme . The service is good and the food is good, many comfort choices , they have Awesome Margaritas and its easy to leave in a good mood. There Queso dip is not to be missed , when you are in a chip mood.

We have been in Wilmington for six months and just found this treasure. Sandros, the bartender remembered bot only our names but our drink and appetizer preferences after only one visit. It made us feel so very special. The drinks were delicious and promptly served. The food was exceptional.Mexican food is our favorite and this is now our go to place. On the second visit we were fortunate to meet Gustavo, one of the owners. After talking with him for a while, it became clear why this is such an awesome place. He understands not only the restaurant business, which he has mastered, but the true meaning of customer service in any business. Please give these guys an opportunity to WOW you. Guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Yelp

Great food but what really sets this place apart is the employees. Very nice and friendly and do whatever they can to make sure you are satisfied. That's really why my family and I are regulars.

Yelp

Omg! Friends always told me to go here and I was never a HUGE fan of Mexican food but this place surely didn't disappoint. Came there for lunch wasn't too busy got greeted and our waitress sat us down the table and bought us a basket of chips with salsa.  The salsa was just like any regular oh salsa and the chips I couldn't stop eating. Also order a side of queso with the chips.  The watery consistent may alarm you but it's far from being any less cheesier. It was pretty good. I order off the lunch special menu and that was the fajita burrito. Girl! That plate was the boom! Chicken was seasoned perfect the grilled onions and bell peppers was just omg grilled to perfection. The tortilla was a little soft because of the load amounts of queso on top (which I'm not complaining) but the rice was kind bland but with all the flavored from the burrito it even out. I will definitelygo to this place again that's for sure! Love it!

Our story begins in a small town

A History Full Of Flavor!

El Cerro Grande is owned by the Ibarra family, who emigrated from the small Mexican town of Degollado, Jalisco.  It is a small town located in the central mountainous region of the state of Jalisco.  The name “El Cerro Grande” is inspired by one of the big hills close to the Ibarra Family ranch, La Sangijuela. El Cerro Grande began as an idea to provide authentic quality Mexican food with exceptional and friendly service.

“We opened the door to our first store in Wilmington, NC on January 1991.  Since then, it has grown to three stores in Wilmington.  We all strive to provide consistent quality fresh food and service based on our founding principles.

Thank you Wilmington for making us part of your community.  Thanks to all those loyal families that since 1991 have been there and made us part of their lives.  We know that since then, many Mexican Restaurants have come and go, but we are blessed and proud to say that in January 2016 we celebrate our 25th Anniversary with our beautiful Wilmington community.  We appreciate your preference. Always remember that ‘mi casa es tu casa’
